Let me tell you a quick story.
When I first started my practice, I was pumped.
I had big dreams, helping tons of clients, running my own schedule, and building something I could be proud of.
For the first few weeks, it felt amazing. But then reality hit.
The clients weren’t coming as quickly as I expected.
Bills piled up, and I started questioning if I’d made the right decision.
I found myself in what I now know is called the Valley of Despair, a phase every entrepreneur faces at some point.
What got me through it was breaking things down into small, manageable steps and remembering why I started in the first place.
I’ll share more on how to survive the Valley of Despair below (video included,) but first, let me give you something you can try with your clients this week.
Technique Spotlight: Quad & IT Band Relief
Tight quads and IT bands are common complaints from clients, especially athletes and runners. The Vastus Lateralis, part of the lateral quad, is often a key player. While you can’t “stretch” the IT band itself, working the surrounding muscles can help relieve tension and improve mobility.

How I Do It:
- Set the Stage: I position the client on their side near the edge of the table with a towel between their knees for comfort.
- Cradle the Leg: Supporting their top leg gives me easy access to the lateral quad and IT band.
- Apply Pressure: Using my forearm, I work in slow, broad strokes along the lateral quad, starting light and gradually increasing pressure.
- Add Movement: As I work, I guide the client’s leg through small movements to deepen the release.
Pro Tip: Check in with your client frequently, as this area can be sensitive. Relief is the goal, not pain!
Business Tip: Surviving the Valley of Despair
Back to the Valley of Despair.
If you’ve ever felt stuck, frustrated, or on the verge of giving up, you’re not alone.
It’s part of the journey, and it doesn’t last forever.
Here’s what helped me climb out:
- Identify the Bottleneck: What’s the real issue? Are you struggling to find clients, manage time, or market yourself? Once you know the problem, you can start to fix it.
- Take Small Steps: You don’t need to overhaul your entire business overnight. Focus on one thing, like refining your social media strategy or building a referral program.
- Celebrate Small Wins: Did you get a new client or a great review? Those little victories remind you that you’re making progress.
- Double Down on What Works: Once you see momentum, more clients, better reviews, focus on doing more of what’s working.
The Valley of Despair is temporary.
If you stay consistent and resilient, you’ll make it through to the other side, where your practice is thriving and you feel fulfilled.
